Brandon Presley's TV spot begins

TUPELO - Last week, Northern District Public Service Commissioner candidate Brandon Presley announced his "bill of rights for rate payers."

The rights include having a bill you can read, talking to a human being at utility companies when you have a question and having open meetings, among other things.

His new television spot, which began airing Monday, covers those issues. You also can see it on the Clearing the Cobwebs blog at www.djournal.com

Anderson gets national endorsement
Democracy for America has endorsed Gary Anderson, a Democratic candidate for insurance commissioner.

Jim Dean, chairman of the Vermont-based organization, called Anderson a progressive candidate. The state, he said, needs someone like Anderson to stand up for the rights of people who, nearly two years after Hurricane Katrina pounded the Gulf Coast, are waiting for insurance payments to start rebuilding.

The organization was founded by former Democratic presidential candidate and Massachusetts Gov. Howard Dean in 2004. It supports candidates at every level of government.

Hosemann receives recommendations for race
Delbert Hosemann, Republican candidate for secretary of state, received an "A" from the National Rifle Association and a recommendation from the Mississippi Right to Life PAC.

The Jackson newspaper, The Clarion-Ledger, also has endorsed Hosemann.

Hosemann said he's proud of the campaign and the momentum he's built.
