Hosemann to run for Secretary of State

6 March 2007

Vicksburg native Delbert Hosemann has announced his bid for Secretary of State.

A Republican, Hosemann is an attorney in real estate, tax and corporate law for the firm of Phelps Dunbar, LLP. He was the Republican nominee for the United States Fourth Congressional District in 1998.

He also served as a member of the United States Electoral College for President George W. Bush in 2000.

“Our country was established on the value of a single vote and each individual's right to vote. Any election irregularity is a crime against every voter. I will uphold the sanctity of one vote,” Hosemann said.

The Secretary of State has general supervision of all 16th Section land and other state lands, a responsibility Hosemann said he sees as a trust for future generations.

“We need to manage these precious assets for funding our children's education, their schools and teachers,” he said.

Hosemann also said his real estate experience and client services relative to corporations and charities would be useful as Secretary of State.

“The Secretary of State's office should be the prime architect in assuring that our corporate laws are business-friendly in order to keep companies in Mississippi and to keep and create more jobs,” he said.

Hosemann, 59, has a bachelor's degree from the University of Notre Dame and holds law degrees from the University of Mississippi and New York University. He currently lives in Jackson.
