Hosemann picks up endorsement

JACKSON - The Mississippi Police Benevolent Association has endorsed Republican Delbert Hosemann for secretary of state.

The Jackson attorney faces former Columbus Mayor Jeffrey Rupp and two other candidates in the Aug. 7 Republican primary.

Hosemann has been “a dedicated ally” of law-enforcement officers, according to a statement issued by his campaign last week.

He received the George Phillips Community Service Award from the U.S. Justice Department for being involved in an anti-gang initiative, chairing the Project Safe Neighborhoods Steering Committee and serving as treasurer of a relief fund for police officers and firefighters who were victims of Hurricane Katrina.

The winner of the four-man GOP primary will face the Democratic nominee in November.
